Location
Agios Vasilis (Greek: Άγιος Βασίλης) is a picturesque, tiny settlement (featuring, of course, a lovely local church) located just 200 meters off the scenic “back road” that connects Almyrida to Xirosterni.
Permanent residents are in single figures, ensuring absolute tranquillity and privacy. The village is currently experiencing an exciting redevelopment phase, with new, high-quality residences and meticulous restorations of traditional buildings.
The settlement itself does not host any shops or kafenions. However, its strategic position is a major selling point, as it is less than a 5-minute walk down to the centre of Almyrida and its popular beaches. A Note of Caution: The walk back up to the village is uphill, guaranteeing your daily exercise and those stunning views!
Agios Vasillis was deserted for decades. Allegedly, the village was abandoned some 30–40 years ago following an old local feud that led to a shooting and the subsequent departure of the remaining community.
In recent years, the area has undergone a significant revival. This investment activity has brought:
Beautiful new stone-built residences with superb sea views.
Meticulously renovated traditional stone houses that maintain the authentic Greek village character.
This is a captivating location, ideal for those seeking the peaceful solitude of nature combined with easy access to the amenities of Almyrida. Enjoy expansive green mountain views and, from many properties, truly magnificent panoramic sea views.
Around Almyrida Bay, there are beautiful small villages worth visiting, including Kera, Plaka, Kampia, Kokkino Chorio (Red Village), Gavalochori, and Vamos.
In Kokkino Chorio, where part of the famous film “Zorba the Greek” was filmed, you can also find the Blown Glass Factory, which attracts numerous visitors.
The village offers a peaceful hillside setting with stunning panoramic views of the coastline below. Its proximity to Almyrida makes it an ideal location for those seeking tranquility while maintaining easy access to seaside amenities and the rich cultural heritage of the Apokoronas region.
Distance from Almyrida beach: 1 kilometer
